Speech Therapy for Stroke

Listed below are three cold, hard facts about Speech Therapy and Recovery after a Stroke.

1. You alone are responsible for the amount of recovery you achieve. No therapist, hospital, or rehab program bears responsibility for your recovery. These institutions can only assist and facilitate the process.

2. You will probably be released from ‘formal’ therapy before you have fully recovered. Insurance almost always quits paying for speech therapy before the person is fully recovered.

3. You will have to find speech therapy resources to continue your progress.

The good news is that there are many resources available to assist you after you have ‘run out of benefits’. Look at Stroke Smart or Stroke Connection magazines – both are free publications. Find Parrot Software or Bungalow Software for computer therapy. Lingraphic has a talking device. The options are much more than they were 5 years ago.
